Our Team

David B. Eaton, CPA, CGMA - President

David has been advising business owners on financial, taxation, and accounting matters for over 27 years. He has a proven history of providing leadership and expertise in both private industry and public practice. David is a forward thinking financial executive who believes that the real value in accounting is in helping businesses move forward and accomplish their goals. While it is critically important to have accurate historical accounting and tax records, it is much more important for business owners to see the financial vision of where their business is heading. It is David’s mission to ensure that his clients not only have a firm foundation of financial history, but also a vision for where they are going and a plan for getting there.

Prior to founding Essential Financial Management, David served as the Chief Financial Officer of Sheffield Homes. For 10 years, in his role as CFO, David provided direction and leadership to the organization for all financial operations. This included over-seeing and managing all financial and tax reporting, managing relationships with lending institutions, and overseeing human resources, information technology, and risk management. David helped manage various land acquisition and development projects and was responsible for creating and communicating the various financial projections for specific projects and the company in general.

David holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Leeds School of Business with an emphasis in Accounting. Upon graduation from college, David worked for the Certified Public Accounting firm of Hines, Condon & Zarlengo, P.C. (now Zarlengo Raub LLLP). During his 5 years there, David provided financial statement audit and review services to a variety of clients in industries such as manufacturing, construction, retail, wholesale, government and not-for-profit entities. David also provided consulting, compilation, tax planning and tax preparation services to individuals and business clients.

David has been licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Colorado since 1996 and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants. In addition, David has been certified as a Chartered Global Management Accountant since July 2012.

Kelly Satterfield, CPA - Tax Manager

Kelly has over 19 years of experience in the accounting and tax profession serving both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining EFM she worked for 2 other CPA firms preparing business, individual and estate tax returns; as well as providing accounting and bookkeeping services including compilation, review and audit engagements for business clients. In the private sector she performed all accounting functions of the business, prepared tax and audit work papers, and assisted the Controller / CFO.

At EFM, you will find Kelly preparing complex and multi-state tax returns as well as reviewing tax returns and reviewing financial statements for bookkeeping clients. She provides tax planning and tax advisory services for clients including problem resolution with the various tax authorities. Kelly also provides tax research on complex matters along with staff development and training.

Kelly holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado – Denver. She also holds an Associates of Arts degree in Accounting from Red Rocks Community College.

Kelly has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of Colorado since 2004. She is a member of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Kelly is an Alaska native and moved to Colorado in 1995 with her high school sweetheart and husband of 24 years. They live in Arvada with their 2 boys and 3 dogs. They love to camp and ride dirt bikes as a family during the summer.

Rose Airhart – Bookkeeper and Accountant

Rose has over 25 years of bookkeeping and accounting experience. She began in Public Accounting, working on audit engagements in the airline, banking and manufacturing industries. Then she moved on to the Oil & Gas Industry where she worked as a Financial Analyst. Several years before joining EFM, she assisted several small businesses with their bookkeeping and payroll needs.

Here at EFM Rose works with our many clients that have trusted us with their monthly bookkeeping responsibilities. She oversees the daily, monthly and annual needs that arise with our bookkeeping clients and our employee.

Rose is a Colorado native and enjoys spending time with her family in the mountains hiking, biking and camping.

Michelle Albrecht – Accountant and Office Manager

Michelle joined EFM in 2021 and brings 20 plus years of bookkeeping, accounting, and office managerial experience. She has worked for a variety of companies and this wide range of professional experience contributes to her success both professionally and personally.

At EFM, Michelle performs and manages many of the administrative responsibilities of the firm. She is often in direct contact with our clients ensuring clear communications and friendly service at all fronts. Among her numerous duties and responsibilities, she processes all personal and business tax returns for presentation to clients and she provides accounting and bookkeeping services. She strives for maintaining an efficient and organized office as well as providing a personable and professional client experience.

In her spare time, you can find Michelle spending time with her family camping, kayaking, bike riding, gardening or quietly reading a book curled up with her favorite dogs!

Pete Cote, EA – Financial and Tax Accountant and Bookkeeper

Pete is an Enrolled Agent (EA) which means he is a federally accredited tax professional who may represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service. He has over 5 years of accounting, bookkeeping, and tax experience. At EFM Pete provides our clients with accounting and bookkeeping services, as well as business and individual tax preparation. He enjoys helping clients get their financials in order, not just for the purpose of compliance, but as a measuring stick that they can utilize to set goals and provide guidance. Pete is also a Public Notary.

Pete gives back to the community in his free time as the Treasurer of the Platte Canyon Area Chamber of Commerce and Boys and Girls Club of the High Rockies. Pete enjoys Karaoke evenings and competitive board games with family and friends.
